About the Exhibit ... GOODWINE FEATURED IN SOLO EXHIBIT The art of Grant Goodwine, Robinson native, will be featured in a free one man show of his work at the Palestine Art Center, 110 S. Main St., Palestine. The show will start Friday, January 6th and run until the end of January. A 2008 Robinson High School graduate, Goodwine has been studying art for the past 3 years at the Art Institute of Indianapolis majoring in media arts and animation. “I have been drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. It just kind of stuck with me,” Goodwine said of the beginning of his interest in art. He likes working in watercolor and ink washes. His experience includes oil painting, some sculpting, Photoshop editing, and charcoal. Goodwine said, “For me art is a livelihood. I am completely consumed by art. Many of my pieces are of people, be it either a portrait or an illustrated scene.” His favored style of art is Expressionism. “It is more colorful and has more movement and more emotion; (it is) just a very lively style." As a young artist, this is Goodwine’s first show. He has been professionally trained in drawing caricatures and is now attempting to pursue a career as a professional illustrator. “I do freelance work for bands mostly and am currently on the hunt for the right illustration agent to help me find more work.” The inspiration for his art is never just one thing. “However, I do have to say the standard inspiration with me lies within music. Some songs put me in the proper mood for whatever pieces I am working on, and with other songs I get perfect visuals of and try to illustrate said song. The runner up to music for inspiration would have to go to finding humor randomly in random places.” Artists Goodwine listed as favorites are Gris Grimly, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Van Gogh, Rembrandt, Sylvain Chomet, Gary Larson, Terry Gilliam, Edgar Degas, Tim Burton, Bosch, Ben Templesmith, Ralph Steadman, and Dave McKean. Goodwine’s parents are Doug and Michelle Goodwine, Robinson, and his grandparents are Donna Wilson and Jim and Jane Goodwine, Palestine. Jane is an art teacher having taught at Palestine High School and Jim has been very actively involved in the Palestine Artist Relocation Project since its inception. You can view Goodwine’s work and meet and talk to him at a reception Friday, January 6th at 6pm at the Palestine Art Center, 110 S Main St. The exhibit is free and the hours of the Art Center are 10:00am to 2:00pm Monday – Friday and 5:00 to 8:00pm on Thursday evenings. |
